WordPress, jQuery and Microsoft

By Lewis Wolfe, Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

WordPress has jQuery in it - it’s what makes the AJAX in the admin do its stuff and is there to be ‘re-used’ in any site customisations you fancy.

jQuery now announce that Nokia and Microsoft are including the into their official application development platform.

Microsoft and Nokia aren’t looking to make any modifications to jQuery (both in the form of code or licensing) - they simply wish to promote its use as-is. They’ve recognized its position as the most popular JavaScript library and wish to see its growth and popularity continue to flourish.

Of course, some might see this as part of MS’s lip-service towards Open Source, and some will take it at face value.

One significant advantage (possibly, depends how you look at it) accruing to WordPress development is that jQuery will be included in the Internet Explorer test suite - greater probability that the admin will work consistently across browsers…
