WordPress 2.7 Comments

By Lewis Wolfe, Tuesday, September 30th, 2008

It seems ‘official’ - poor honest WordPress Theme designers have a load more work in prospect to drag their themes into compatibility with the projected 2.7 version.

Where this all fits with the discussion about Intense Debate still isn’t elucidated - fair enough, this is a major issue and not going to be decided and promulgated in a week or so.

Picked at random:

It also adds a ton of classes on all these LIs which surround every comment in this fashion:

  • comment, trackback, pingback classes get added depending on the type of the comment.
  • odd and even classes are added to odd and even numbered comments

- Nothing yet concerning one of the standard customisations adopted by many/most of the higher quality themes, separation of ping/trackbacks from user comments

I doubt if these refinements will be effectively optional in a theme - What’s the percentage of blogs out there that truly require threaded comments…?
