WordPress 2.7 User Interface survey
So it’s the first 5000 lucky punters in the survey - that’s how it works… And this exercise in focus group ‘democracy’, well, that has a nice feel, does it not?
This time for deciding, apparently, the fine detail of the admin, drilling down into ever finer detail. To paraphrase the late Reichsmarschal, when I sense ‘focus group’, or even ‘committee decision’ I reach for my revolver - not that I actually have a revolver, of course…

Hi Lewis. I agree that basing decisions on focus groups is not the way to go. We’re posting these surveys in cases where there is more than one viable idea and the early feedback from developers who are downloading the nightly builds suggests that there will be strong opinions about a specific label or feature. The votes from the survey can influence us by giving us an idea of what people think, but are most useful in that the comments left by participants can often inspire new or better ideas. A winning vote in a survey doesn’t guarantee that’s how we’ll do something in the final design, but reviewing the results does remind us that not everyone uses or looks at WordPress the same way, and it helps us understand the wide variety of user viewpoints. This process will help us make the next version as easy to use as possible.

Thank you - yes, I was being largely tongue-in-cheek, I appreciate the sentiment behind the process.
