WordPress and Google Sitemaps?

I’ve got a WordPress blog, should I go to the trouble of setting up a (Google) sitemap for it?

No.

Why not?

The clue is in Google’s “locate web pages our spiders might not otherwise find…” - that’s what a sitemap does, and WordPress, if and when set up properly in its permalink structure will do the job just as well.

Sitemaps are a firm invitation to spammers, I don’t see the point of the extra struggle involved, too many moving parts…
You can use the sitemap plugin for WordPress - excellent in itself, but because the nature of the deal, tends to make the server run out of memory fairly soon in the proceedings - most servers tend to grind to a halt above ~ 100 posts

On balance - not worth it…
