New Alexa rank algorithm
There’s a new Alexa rank algorithm out - we previously knew Alexa rank to be meaningless except when it came to people like Text Link Ads using it as part of their calculation.
The main point appears to be less reliance on toolbar stats - as Alexa puts it, data is now gathered from a variety of sources, whatever they may be…
What happened previously is that tech-aware users, who had the Alexa toolbar - despite its malware connotations - and usually for the purpose of visiting their own sites frequently, bumped up the rankings of the tech-orientated sites they visited.
Now, as TechCrunch puts it,
A search of tech blogs saw many with significant drops in rank, where as political sites have had big boosts. For example TechCrunch and the Drudge Report were tracking similar figures on Alexa prior to the change, where as now the Drudge Report is a mile out in front.
Just something else to live with, and manipulate where possible…
Most of ours seem to have gone up a little, as far as I can remember - any wild changes to report…?

All Latinamerican sites has lost a lot of ranking. For example, three main Venezuelan news sites were round 2.000 and now all three are around 6.000

Strangely, we are seeing a consistent increase in the number of unique visitors through Statcounter.com, the changes in Alexa ranking are slightly dis-aligned.
Wondering, how to make our visitors install Alexa Tool bar!!!
